Functional Skills English Entry Levels 1 and 2- This course is for learners whose first language is English, have a good level of speaking and listening, and want to improve their basic reading and writing skills. During this course, learners will learn to read straightforward texts encountered in everyday life and work, and develop confidence to read more widely. Learners will also gain skills to write straightforward texts and documents with clarity and effectiveness, and demonstrate a sound grasp of spelling, punctuation and grammar.Functional Skills English Entry 3- This course is for learners who have basic literacy skills and wish to improve so that they can communicate more confidently and effectively in everyday life, further study and at work. This course will focus on developing skills in reading, writing and verbal communication with a focus on improving grammar. This course is ideal for native English speakers as well as learners who have achieved all components ESOL Entry 3. Learners will be working towards a nationally recognised qualification in Functional Skills Entry 3 which includes exams in Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening. To be entered for the exams, learners must pass a mock assessment.Functional Skills English Level 1- This course is designed to develop learners existing knowledge so that they are able to communicate, read and write clearly and accurately in a variety of scenarios in the community, at work and in the home. By the end of the course, learners will have the ability and confidence to complete tasks in a range of formal and informal situations such as, applying for jobs, making requests and giving information to others, understanding written and verbal instructions etc.Learners will be working towards a nationally recognised qualification in Functional Skills English Level 1. Prior to enrolling on a course, learners will need to complete an initial assessment to assess their level and learning needs.

Functional Skills English Entry Levels 1 and 2Entry Level 1: Read simple sentences in different contexts. Understand a short piece of text on a simple subject e.g. an email about an event. Punctuate simple sentences with a capital letter and a full stop. Use a capital letter for the personal pronoun I and the first letter of proper nouns. Write the letters of the alphabet in sequence and in both upper and lower caseEntry Level 2: Use a dictionary or spell-checker to find the meaning of words and check their spelling. Use basic punctuation correctly (e.g. full stops, capital letters, question and exclamation marks). Acquire an understanding of everyday words and their uses and effects, and apply this understanding in different contexts. Use the first and second letters to sequence words in alphabetical order. Complete a form asking for personal information (e.g. first name, surname, address, postcode, age, date of birth). Write sentences using common conjunctions (e.g. or, and, but).

Develop their writing of different text such as emails, reviews etc. whilst showing accuracy in spelling, grammar and punctuation. Confidently communicate with others in both formal and informal situations e.g. writing letters, emails, blogs etc. Read and understand a range of texts such as books, newspaper articles, brochures etc.
